Bernecker + Rainer - Expansion Production plant
Expansion Production plant, Employee Dining Restaurant, Entrance Building

Following the already successfully implemented construction phases back in 1987 as well as a first extension in the year 1999, from 2007 onwards Kaufmann & Partner planned a large extension of the production plant of the electronics and automation company Bernecker + Rainer located in Eggelsberg.
Not only did this extension result in new production premises comprising more than 40.000 sq.m. but also in a fully automated high bay warehouse of 15.000 sq.m., a staff canteen which can seat approx. 220 staff, a training and seminar area and a prestigious reception building serving as a new entrance to the company grounds.
The first production plant of approx. 25.000 sq.m. was located according to the axial extension of the existing production plant thus facing west, parallel to it and facing south there is the smaller production plant of approx. 18.000 sq.m. and finally there is the south-west facing high bay warehouse.
Situated between the office block from the first construction phase dating from 1989 and the production premises there is a west-facing, detached staff canteen, or rather an east-facing, detached glass cube of the reception building with its radial drive entrance.
All these internally connected units were logistically realised according to the safety guidelines for production processes and the fire safety regulations. In terms of the demands placed upon interior design and especially upon air-conditioning (fully air-conditioned) the production plants correspond much more to an office building than to a conventional factory.
In terms of their construction the production plants represent a mixture of a reinforced concrete skeleton, fa├žades overclad with EWI (external wall insulation) and aluminium window frames.
